Locks of Love is, in my opinion, one of the easiest charities to support. What is Locks of Love, you ask? Here's a quote from their front page, "Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis."
My question is, how many of us get our hair cut after 'growing it out' for a while? Most of us, right? Even if you're not cutting off the full 10 inches they need to make a hairpiece, why not donate what you do have cut? Locks of Love will take any lengths of bundled hair, even if they're not long enough for them to use for full hair pieces. They sell these smaller lengths of hair to help offset their manufacturing costs.
It's easy, the hair would be thrown away (would you keep it?) and it only costs you the postage to mail. Besides, it feels good to know you're helping to restore the self-confidence of a child. Check out the
photo gallery of before and after shots of some of the kids who've been touched by this charity. It might just make you band that hair before cutting it . . .
Here's what mine looked like before . . .
And here's what it looks like now . . .
This is what we cut off: The two longer sections were just over 10 inches and the two shorter sections were about 7-8 inches before braiding.
Go--get a new summer 'do' and make some child's life a little happier while you're at it!
